DAKS introduces you to the faces behind the brand, kicking things off with Print Designer Gemma Kelson. Gemma creates some of DAKS’ most iconic prints that run across all the collections and make up some of the standout pieces in the SS20 Malta collection.
‘I gained my degree in textile design at Manchester Metropolitan University specialised in printed textiles. Before Daks I interned and explored freelance print roles for studios and brands having moved to London to understand the industry and gain hands-on experience. I also designed and ran my own small independent printed accessories brand which was a great experience."
At Daks my main role is to assist with coming up with the seasonal print directions, creating mood-boards and researching trends and coming up with the artwork for both the new prints and checks. As a small team we work closely from the beginning of the season on the all new proposals for colour, mood and print together. Alongside this another part of my role is to design and develop the scarf and foulard collection which gets printed and made in our Italian and Scottish mills. The role is incredibly creative and involves a lot of drawing, painting development and working across Adobe to create digital designs to
produce onto the fabric. I really love seeing the process through from design stage to final product."
